With plans in the future to walk the Southern Upland Way and the Speyside Way, I am planning to try and get a walk in every Sunday to keep my fitness levels up for the long distance walks. Most weeks it will simply be walking across the fields locally – as it is today.
All day the BBC news has been constantly talking about the coming snow. It started snowing and settling here about 5pm.
It was showing -5c, when I went out to clear the windscreen of my car this morning.
Walking to a job this morning I passed some conifer trees – what you cannot see in the photograph is that it was snowing quite hard at the time.

White Sands, Dunbar
Rather than stopping at a service station, I pulled in just past where Jeremy and I camped last summer and drove down to a car park on the beach for lunch.

I got up early this morning and went to Loch Morlich for the sunrise. It was very cold and my hands are still thawing out as I write this but the sunrise was worth it.
Yet another bright frozen day, with a light dusting of overnight snow – a good day to go to the high ridge of the Craigellachie Nature Reserve.
Lunch on the top
When I first got up to the summit there was hardly any breeze and it was a great place for lunch overlooking the Cairngorm range. Whilst I was having my soup it started to snow, I watched it coming up the valley towards me.
This is the second day of wearing my new Explorer Trek boots. The tread gives a sure grip on both wet rocks and icy paths. They are very comfortable, warm, waterproof, and give good, high ankle support. They are large boots but they are still lightweight. It looks like they are a good buy and I am looking forward to wearing them for many miles.

I am walking parts of the Great Glen Way and the Caledonian Canal today. Also it is time to buy some new boots!
The Great Glen Way makes its way out of Inverness along the river and across the Ness Islands.
