Woodland walk today

A short woodland walk today – after yesterday’s coast walk – in Holsworthy Woods just south of Holsworthy

It was just a quick mince pie and tea stop today with a flask. As the weather was damp and dull I headed back to the hotel and a movie – so I did not need the rest of the gear and food I packed with me.

Furnace

Furnace is a village named after the industrial plant that is there – disused now but restored. The iron furnace was built in the village on the banks of the river in about 1755 – and processed ore bought there from Cumbria by ship.

Riverside walk

There weather forecast was poor so I followed a path out of the village along the river for a short walk and lunch.

I used the gas stove today as the wind was so strong that the alcohol stove could not deliver enough heat the boil water for Indian spiced Tea.

Morning tea in the garden

The weather is nice enough today to have my mid-morning tea out in the garden – watching a movie on Netflix.

The tomato plant has gone into the compost bin and the top compost from the pot has gone onto the raspberry patch. Total crop from the tomato plant was about a Pyrex bowl of cherry tomatoes. And we thought that it would produce very little – in fact Alyssa thought the plant was dead!

Walking

I went out to the Blankney Walks today – but before that, this was the view from the office this morning.

Tea break on the walk

There is a useful picnic table near the car park with good views. I brewed Chai tea, on a solid fuel stove I keep in the car and read a book in the late autumn sun.

I missed the rain whilst I was walking and during the tea break although I could see rain around me – however when I got back to Branston there was rainbow.
