New Twitter feed for Octagon Technology

In between fixing computers and recovering some data for a client from a “broken” hard drive Martin and I have been working on Octagon’s social media links. We had been using Diana’s Twitter account for the business, but we made a decision a couple of weeks ago that the company should have its own presence on Twitter – @OctagonT.

This means after a weekend if exciting walking and camping photos today it is a photo of work.

SofaCON 2013: An Online International Science Fiction Convention

StarshipSofa – SofaCON 2013

I am a regular listener and subscriber to the StarshipSofa podcast, hosted by Tony Smith from his headquarters in North East England. This summer Tony organised a Sci-Fi convention, with a difference, it was online. I was unable to commit the time to buy a ticket, but Amy Sturgis, (a key contributor to both the Sofa and SofaCON) has posted a video on YouTube of some of the online events.

StarShipSofa

StarshipSofa is one of my favourite podcasts, as well as getting a professional standard narrated, world class story each week there are a variety of regular fact articles making it a true magazine podcast. Among my favourite contributions are Looking Back at SciFi History by Amy H Sturgis, who knows what she will tell us about next and Science News by Jim Campanella, where you can nearly guarantee he will tell us something obscure about the sex life of an insect!

I have promoted the video here – if you like what you see then go over and subscribe to the Sofa.

More Peak District

We got the tents down this morning and managed to eat our breakfast outside before the rain came along.

Today’s plan was to get some photos and a coffee before heading home. We got the tea, coffee and Derbyshire Oatcakes with bacon at Stocks Cafe, Chapel-en-le-Frith. I’d recommend a visit there to anyone.

Why Stocks Cafe? Here is the answer.

We moved on from there to Blue John Cavern and Edale.

There was a living roof on the Visitor Centre in Edale.

The Kinder Trespass started from Edale in 1932.

Peak District

As the weather was not great, rather than walk in the hills we thought we would go to Bakewell and follow a short section of a walk Diana had sent me. She had watched a television program where Tony Robinson had been walking in the Peak District and exploring the history of the area. Diana had sent me a PDF, she had got from the show website – so we had a plan.

First stop was Bakewell.

We fled from the tourists and walked up to All Saints Church – where we had an excellent tea and home made cake. (Well Richard had coffee!)

Ratatosk – from the Anglo-Saxon Cross in the churchyard.

Then we moved onto Ashford-in-the-Water – where like Branston there is a Sheepwash.

Following lunch by the river we walked up to the Magpie Mine – but using mainly footpaths rather than the suggested road route.

Back at the campsite the evening was nice enough to cook and eat outside.
