Time for today’s photo

I was covering today for staff on holiday and I had my own appointments to get to, I was wondering when I would get time to find a photo for today.

As I was coming along the A15 I had to stop to make a call for work so I pulled into the RAF viewing area and there was the Vulcan sitting there in the rain.

I have photographed the Vulcan before but it does make a good subject.

A very dirty PC

This was a really dirty job. We got a call this morning about a computer that would not start. Martin was already out on a call, dealing with a virus, so I went. He got lucky!

Well it did not take long to find out part of the reason that this PC stopped. Dust, dirt and cobwebs – except I think the spiders were killed by the dust.

A clean out however did not resurrect this machine – it was dead and buried.

Many of Octagon’s clients get us in to regularly clean and maintain their servers and computers to stop this type of catastrophic failure happening.

Someone opened a zip file in an unsolicited email!

At this moment I am sitting in front of a client’s computer, working on it because they accidentally opened a .zip file attached to an email.

Why did they do that? Because earlier they had placed an online order and they mistakenly believed that this was the confirmation.

Rule number 1

Do not open .zip files.

For more advice on Cryptolocker and other online malware, I have written two articles for Octagon Technology, which are available on their web site. Follow the links below:

Cryptolocker is a serious threat to everyone’s data and files

Unsolicited Email – Cryptolocker Prevention

Martin has also blogged about the threat:

URGENT Cryptolocker Update!

Remember this advice also applies to other internet/email rogue software.

This Job

It seems that this malware had only broken the web browser and was nothing more serious.

We will still carry out, this evening, our procedure of taking a copy of their online data backup – just in case.

Rogue software on a PC is always going to cost a business money. If you would like to save this expense speak to Octagon to see how they can help you.

This flower was on the window sill of the office where I was working.

Photo for Octagon

I have written an article today for Octagon, which needed a photo for the SEO.

HTC Wildfire S

It shows a cycling GPS app CycleStreets running on my “PDA” Wildfire S that I use when backpacking and camping.
