Not how we leave a job…
I have been out on several support calls today – one of which was a particularly taxing network issue. This shot is part way through finding the problem.

Kamila and I went along to the Develop and Promote Office Warming Party at their new offices in Wellingore Hall today.
Things that were there:
Great hospitality from Darren, Alison and their team.
Excellent cake from Angels Desserts.
Things not there;
Paul Wilson did not have a lunch box with him.

We were let down by one of the software suppliers last weekend, when Octagon went to replace a client’s ageing server – they were surprised by how slow it was, forgetting that we were replacing it because it was too slow for their software!
Fortunately the plan Martin and I had drawn up allowed for plenty of points along the project for us to stop and reset the network back to it’s original state so allowing the client’s business to still operate. Then all we had to do on Monday was reschedule for this weekend.
I am now sitting here at 1am doing the data copy!
The rest of the team will be joining me at 8am.

With Martin on leave today I had to cover some of the support jobs. It being Friday and the sun was shining, it was time to get the Mazda MX-5 out. Fortunately we had a call out to a client out in the country down some winding roads.
Today I have been out helping clients, up around the Bailgate in Lincoln and have passed several Barons. I thought this was the most unusual – a Steampunk Baron.

Watch out for the Octagon’s Twitter competition for StarShipSofa’s 400th show.

Martin, Michael, Connor and myself are onsite this weekend, (Jeremy would have been here as well if he had not been Inter Railing), changing out a client’s server for a Hyper-V based server system. The day started early with copying files and databases, before we go for the switch over and then all the PC and peripheral configuration. The plan is to get the majority of the work done today and then Martin and I will come back tomorrow to check all is well.
This client is a 24/7 operation so a workable system has to be back online as soon as possible – Martin’s plan includes getting one PC working in the transport office before we start on the rest of the network. As the client uses Octagon Technology’s hosted Exchange services they are not losing their email at any time – the staff that are in are using their smartphones to keep in contact with their clients.
Diana has a vital role in today’s job – she has timed the family shopping trip to coincide with lunch so she can bring us sandwiches – also she is manning the emergency phone!
